Equality diversity & inclusion

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy is based on guidelines produced by the NIHR and the NIHR EDI Strategy 2022-2027. Our host organisations have existing EDI strategies and action plans in place that are underpinned by the Equality Act 2010. The University of Birmingham’s Equality Change Programme was established in 2020 to drive forward key strands of EDI activity, with a particular emphasis on the University Athena SWAN and Race Equality Charter action plans. The Midlands PSRC EDI Strategy builds on these plans and extends to other characteristics such as socioeconomic status, geography and access to health and care services that contribute to exacerbation of health inequalities. In the spirit of collaboration across NIHR infrastructure, we have also taken inspiration from the joint NIHR Birmingham BRC/CRF EDI Strategy so that working together we can accelerate change.
